I've been framed!

So a lot has happened in the last week or so.  On the 14th, they got the slab poured.  Then we had some rain over the weekend, and we were afraid that was going to slow things down...
Still looks wet!
A day later...
Gettin' it done!
But apparently the rain didn't slow them down as much as we feared, because by the 18th, the whole thing was framed!  I've got to say, so far I'm very impressed with this crew.

It was extremely exciting for us to be able to walk through the house and see everything taking shape...especially the finished attic!  That's the one thing we haven't been able to see so far, because there are no models around with the finished attic.  It was even bigger than we thought it would be, and I am chomping at the bit to turn it into my man-cave.

The living room...can't wait to see the stone fireplace!

Okay, that's all for now...very pleased so far with everything.  We'll be doing our walk-through with Guardian tomorrow, and our pre-drywall the 1st week of April.  Stay tuned for more, and as always, stay classy!

Got wood?

Things are moving along nicely, and yes, I've got wood.  A lot of it.  We went out to the site yesterday to see how things were going, and found that they had delivered the lumber for the house.
That's a lot of wood...
They also had the foundation prepped for the slab to go in.

Also, they have done some preliminary landscaping around the house itself, but the farther reaches of the back yard still look more like a rock quarry than a yard.  But still, it was really good to go out and see things starting to take shape.

We had a bit of a scare when we first saw the brick, because it looked a lot lighter than it did in the sample, but our PM assured us that the bricks were dirty, and had mortar on them still, which was making them look much lighter than they actually are.  Once washed off they should look darker.  I told my wife the same thing, but she was much more reassured after hearing it from him.  Go figure.

Okay kids, that's it for now.  Stay classy!

It has begun!

Okay, things are finally moving along.  This past Thursday (4 days ago) we had our pre-construction meeting with the senior project manager.  We were very happy with him, as he seems to really know his stuff, and so far at least, seems to be a nice enough guy.  But the best part of the meeting was at the end when we went out to walk the lot.  To our great excitement, we found that they had already started grading and digging!

Here's our driveway

We got to walk the lot with the PM, who explained how everything was going to be graded and everything.  We actually love our lot even more now that we can get a better feel for how its going to be.  But the best part?  The PM told us that due to the way the lot is, they're going to have to set our house up a couple feet.  What that means to us is, even though its on a slab, its going to look as if its on a crawl space, and we will have a couple steps leading up to the porch.  May not be a big deal to y'all, but that just made our day!
My beautiful wife and I with the PM

One of the rare times you will catch my wife smiling while outdoors!

So then today we decided to go back out and see if any more progress has been made.  Not much, other than they have poured concrete into the trenches they dug out.  Here's some pics of that.

The girls had fun too!

So that's about it for now.  Feels good to have things under way.  Okay people, you know the drill.  Stay classy.
